Elected to his first term as District 5 Commissioner in November of 2011 and then elected Commissioner-At-Large in 2014. He is a life-long resident of Essex County, attended the Montclair Public Schools and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Seton Hall University, where he earned a B.A. degree in Political Science. Commissioner Gill brings extensive government experience to the Board of County Commissioners, having served in all levels of government.
Commissioner Gill served as State Director for U. S. Senator Frank Lautenberg from 2007 until his passing in 2013 and has served as a Senior Advisor to Senator Cory A. Booker. Previously, Commissioner Gill served as District Director for U.S. Congressmen Bill Pascrell and Steve Rothman, Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Peter Eagler, and Communications Director for the NJ Department of Transportation. Commissioner Gill chairs the Democratic Party of Montclair where he previously served on the Planning Board, and currently operates his own public affairs and political consulting firm. Brendan is an active member of the Irish-American community and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Commissioner Gill’s leadership and service have been recognized by national and state media, stakeholder groups; including recently when Commissioner Gill was named to the 2017 NJ Biz Power 100.
