At our December 5th Inaugural EOPA California summit, hosted by the California Energy Commission, a range of experts discussed how transitioning to a 100% clean energy economy is key to California’s prosperity with an equitable transition from fossil fuels. Offshore wind farms would help accelerate the process and realize the state’s clean energy goals. David Chiu, San Francisco City Attorney, former CA Assemblyman, is the co-author of the CA offshore wind law and was our keynote speaker, who delivered a rising speech and said offshore wind’s buildout, “must be equitable, affordable and sustainable.” Please listen HERE.
Participants included federal, state, and local officials, state lawmakers, local elected officials, tribal leaders, clean energy industry representatives, as well as offshore wind and policy experts.
Offshore wind has the potential to provide more than 2,000 gigawatts (GW) of energy in the United States — two times the present generation of the entire U.S. electric grid, according to a National Renewable Energy Laboratory estimate. The recent CA offshore wind lease sale will bring union jobs and clean energy.
Offshore wind will accelerate the state’s transition to 100% clean energy economy –
At our morning press conference at the CA Capitol, state lawmakers and local elected officials urged legislation on a windfall profits cap on oil companies for the price gouging practices. The penalty would provide a rebate for CA consumers. EOPA California local elected officials from frontline communities spoke about how their communities are being affected by gas prices as the oil industry continues to rake in billions of dollars in profits with no regard for how it hurts Californians, our climate and security. Listen to the radio shore HERE.
