About Us

Leadership for energy security solutions -

Elected Officials to Protect America is a network of current and former bipartisan elected officials. E.O.P.A works with elected officials and civic leaders to protect our environment, and educate about energy security solutions.

E.O.P.A. educates and trains lawmakers through value-based storytelling and has national and state-based programs. We educate to see energy security solutions implemented.Ā

E.O.P.A. is the only national organization that mobilizes veterans who are lawmakers to work together on energy security solutions.Ā

Our network is vast with elected officials at all levels of government working with us in 50 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.Ā

At a press conference at the CA Capitol, state lawmakers and local elected officials educated about how a windfall profits cap onĀ  companies for the price gouging practices is a energy security solutions. Since 2017 EOPA has been working in California to education how a transition to 100% clean renewable energy will improve public health and the economy.

The Urgency -

Record droughts, heat waves, wildfires, flash flooding, coastal flooding, ocean acidification, and storms are increasing in magnitude and frequency.Ā Extreme weather conditions are becoming the norm. Mass migrations are happening and millions more are under threat. Scarcity of resources and political instability have already ignited conflicts. These wars leave devastation, starvation and death in their wake.Ā

With our help bipartisan elected officials at all levels are implementing ways to educate their peers and communities about solutions for an energy security future.Ā

We sent veterans who are elected officials in Washington D.C. to meet with Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill to protect our land and water

Representative Alex Cornell du Houx at a press conference with fellow veterans at the White House speaking out to combat the climate crisis for our national security.

Since 2015, We've Educated hundreds of state and local Elected officials from every state -

While deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, with the Marine Corps infantry, former Representative Alex Cornell du Houx gained firsthand insight into how water security and energy security are inseparable. During a routine patrol on a sweltering hot day, a roadside bomb exploded and hit his HUMVEE. As the dust cleared and after they checked their limbs, they quickly caught the assailant as he tried to escape. Fortunately, this military-age man was not well trained, and most of the blast had missed the vehicle. After securing the area, they investigated and soon learned that he was a desperate farmer. There was a record-setting drought and his crops had failed. Vulnerable, he had been turned into a terrorist, paid to attack Americans.

This experience motivated Alex to run for office, where he met fellow veterans who were elected with similar energy security experiences. At the Copenhagen UN climate negotiations, he met Caroline, New York Council member Dominic Frongillo, who worked statewide in New York to educate about the energy security dangers of fracking.  Together, they developed the concept, with Andy Katz, for the project: Elected Officials to Protect America. With elected officials across the country, and partners EOPA works to raise the awareness of energy security.

Over the years, E.O P.A. has held meetings with U.S. Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill and with elected officials at the state and local levels to educate them on energy security solutions. For example, in 2019 E.O.P.A. obtained signatures from over 80 veterans who were also state government elected officials on a letter that educated on the importance of keeping our public lands funded for energy security.  Then E.O.P.A took a delegation of some of the veterans who are state lawmakers to Washington D.C.. There the delegation met with Congressional leaders about the letter.

E.O.P.A. has educated lawmakers in 45 state capitols, at national elected officials conferences and through our public certificate program with the University of San Francisco.
